“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

In a world filled with distractions and countless voices competing for our attention, God’s Word remains our constant source of truth, wisdom, and direction. The Bible is much more than a collection of stories or historical events—it is God’s living message to His people. Through it, He teaches, corrects, encourages, and transforms us into the people He has called us to be. Bible study is not simply an activity we check off our to-do list. It is an opportunity to spend time with our Heavenly Father. As we read His Word, we come to know His character, understand His will, and strengthen our faith. Just as our physical bodies need daily nourishment, our spiritual lives require the daily nourishment of God’s Word.

As adults, we have a tremendous responsibility to teach the next generation to love and study the Scriptures. One of the greatest lessons we can teach our children is not merely that they should read their Bibles—but to let them see us reading ours.

Children learn far more from what they observe than from what they are told. When they see us opening our Bibles, making time for God’s Word, discussing what we have learned, and applying biblical principles in our daily lives, they begin to understand that Scripture is valuable. Our example speaks loudly, showing them that God’s Word is not reserved for Sunday mornings but is meant to guide us every day.

Just as important as reading the Bible is the attitude with which we approach it. Bible study should always begin with prayer. Before we open God’s Word, we should ask Him to prepare our hearts and minds. We should pray that He removes distractions, gives us wisdom, and helps us understand the message He desires for us to receive.

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” — Psalm 119:18 This is a beautiful reminder that understanding Scripture is not based solely on our own knowledge or intelligence. We depend on God to illuminate His Word and help us apply it to our lives. The Holy Spirit guides us as we study, revealing truths that encourage, convict, and strengthen us. As we faithfully study God’s Word and model that commitment for our children, we are planting seeds of faith that can last a lifetime. We may not always see immediate results, but every moment spent reading together, every conversation about Scripture, and every prayer before opening God’s Word is an investment in the next generation’s relationship with God.

Let us be people who treasure God’s Word, study it diligently, pray over it faithfully, and live it consistently. May our children see in us a genuine love for the Scriptures and develop that same love for themselves.
